Our Opshop

Monica's Place

Also known as the Best Little Op Shop in Town

Our Op-shop, 'Monica's Place', is named in honour of Monica Kagoro, a dedicated support worker for Goldfields Women's Refuge, who helped local families and children escape domestic violence relationships and move forward in troubled times, from 2007 to 2019, when sadly Monica passed away.

The Op-shop has previously always been run solely by volunteers but thanks to some funding provided in 2020 by Mining Legends with the assistance of the Goldfields Esperance Community Trust, we were able to revamp the shop. This has led to increased business and so we now employ a Manager who runs the Op-shop with the assistance of our amazing volunteers.

Funds raised through our Op-shop are used to support our clients with items not covered under our funding. Monica's Place gives us the capacity to offer food hampers, clothing and household items to our clients or anyone who needs genuine assistance in the community.

Any remaining funds are invested back into Goldfields Women's Refuge to provide other support such as travel/accommodation to those in emergency situations but who do not meet the requirements for assistance through other government or community agencies.

Volunteering

Volunteers are the foundation of Monica's Place. They are a dedicated lifeline enabling us to open our shop six days per week.

You have the choice to volunteer a few hours, one day or more, but there is no doubt that our Op Shop Manager will ensure you feel welcome and that your strengths are acknowledged and utilised.

If you would like to be a part of the team, please register your interest by contacting the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Volunteer Centre on 9093 2146 or visit www.kbvolcentre.org.au/contact/
